Dr. Andrew C. Mills, DVM, MPH
Dr. Mills grew up in Louth, Lincolnshire, England; his family moved to Mobile, Alabama when he was 10 years old. He graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama in 1967. After graduation he practiced at a small animal hospital in Mobile, Alabama. He also worked at a mixed animal practice, (cattle, horses and small animals) in Montana where he met his wife Carol. Carol helps in the practice as needed. He served in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Veterinary Corps. He received a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Minnesota, majoring in Veterinary Public Health, and Veterinary Dermatology. He started a four-year residency in Veterinary Dermatology at the University of Minnesota in 1990, completed in 1994, and has been a full-time Veterinary Dermatologist since that time, practicing at the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service clinic in Coon Rapids, MN.
Among Dr. Mills’ professional interests are allergic skin conditions, immunotherapy and zoonotic parasitic skin conditions (diseases transmitted between animals and man).
Dr. Mills is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology (AAVD).
Dr. Mills enjoys skeet shooting, skiing, vegetable gardening, walking and bicycle riding. He and Carol are the parents of three children: Ryan, of New Haven, CT who helped start the practice and was an assistant all through high school and college; Peter of Washington, DC; and Jennifer of Chicago, IL. An addition to the Mills family is "Poppy" a Golden Retriever/Poodle mix, adopted from the Animal Humane Society in St. Paul, MN. She comes to the clinic daily and "helps" Dr. Mills. Poppy has been diagnosed with allergies. Dr. Mills is now treating her, his second dog in a row with allergies!
Eva Heifort, CVT
Eva is our full time Certified Veterinary Technician. Prior to finding her true passion in a career as a CVT, Eva spent years in the retail and hospitality professions. Eva is very dedicated to helping improve the lives of animals and their owners. To further achieve this goal, she is also an animal control officer and is involved with animal rescue organizations, among them Ruff Start and Angel of Hope. One never knows how many orphaned kittens can be found at Eva's home! She also works at another veterinary clinic as a CVT. She is interested in animal behavior, nutrition and allergies. Her family includes Dale, her 4 year old son Logan, an adopted American Staffordshire Terrier Chica, two sugar gliders Felix and Oscar, and an aquarium full of fishy-friends. In her spare time, Eva loves to cook, read, garden and tend her indoor “jungle” of plants (as Dale puts it).
Patricia Kohl, RN
Patricia is a retired Registered Nurse who has always wanted to work with animals. She took courses in Veterinary Technology and thoroughly enjoyed them. She and her husband Bob have a hobby farm with a horse named Flo, chickens, turkeys and peacocks. Their German Shepherd dog Myya takes care of the farm! Patricia is also involved with a tutoring program for inner city children and coordinates meals for homeless people; both programs have been ongoing for the last 15 years. Patricia is a very busy lady and loves it!
Kaitlin Monson, 2nd Year Veterinary Student (Saturday Staff)
Kaitlin is a second year veterinary student at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota. She is from St. Paul, MN and received a B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota. She has a strong interest in shelter medicine, emergency and critical care medicine and veterinary dermatology. Kaitlin has two rescue dogs, a pug named Buddha, a bulldog mix, Oke and one special needs cat, Lady Gaga. In addition to caring for her own pets, she is very involved in fostering for a local rescue organization and specializes in orphan kitten care.
Ali Thomas-Holland, 2nd Year Veterinary Student (Saturday Staff)
Ali is a second year veterinary student at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Minnesota. She is interested in both small and mixed animal general practice as well as veterinary dermatology. She is originally from McLean, VA and received her degree in Animal Science and Genetics from North Carolina State University. When she isn't working or studying, she loves running and spending time with her friends and her cat Jet.
